How to make Instant Pot Baked Beans
If you want to make pressure cooker baked beans, just follow these simple steps.
- Place the beans, onions, and beef broth into the Instant Pot and cook them for one and a half hours.
- Release the pressure manually.
- Mix together the brown sugar, mustard, molasses, and Worcestershire sauce. Add it to the Instant Pot and heat.
Can I pre-soak the beans?
Yes, if you want to make this in less than one hour and 25 minutes, you can soak your dry beans for 4 hours.
Then, you will only need to cook the beans, onions, and broth for 40 minutes.
Can I use canned beans?
Yes, if you want to use canned beans when you make pressure cooker baked beans, you can.
Just add the beans and the other ingredients and cook them on the manual setting for about 15 minutes.
What are the best beans for Instant Pot Baked Beans?
This recipe was made with navy beans. But, you could also use northern beans and still cook them for the same amount of time.
If you try a different type of dried beans, make sure that you check the cooking time. It may need to be adjusted slightly for a different type of bean.
Why are my beans watery?
If your sauce hasn’t thickened up enough, you can easily make it thicker with this simple trick. Just mix a bit of cornstarch with cold water.
Then, slowly stir this mixture into your baked beans until the sauce is thicker.
Never add cornstarch directly to hot liquid as it will make lumps and ruin your Instant Pot Baked Beans.
What else can I add to baked beans?
We love this recipe just the way it is. But, if you want to try adding something else, you can add salt pork or bacon.
If you want a slightly different flavor, you can also add barbecue sauce, cayenne pepper, or even espresso powder.

How do I store leftover Instant Pot Baked beans?
If you have leftovers you want to store for the next day, you can place them in an air-tight container.
Store them in the refrigerator and they will stay good for three to five days.
If you want to keep them for longer than that, you will need to freeze them.
All you need to do is put them in a freezer container. They will stay good in the freezer for about 3 months.
To reheat them, let them thaw in the refrigerator overnight. Then, heat them slowly in a saucepan until they are heated through.
They almost taste better the next day!

- Beef broth
- Onion
- Salt and pepper
- Cornstarch
Instructions
Open your instant pot and put the beans, onion, and beef broth into the pot.
Cover and set the valve to the sealed position.
Use the pressure cook or manual button for the appropriate time listed below.
- Presoaked beans: 1 hour and 25 minutes
- Not presoaked: 40 minutes
When the instant pot stops counting, release the pressure by opening the valve. Then, when the pin drops, open the pot.
In a bowl or even in the measuring cup as I do to save on dishes, mix the brown sugar, mustard, molasses, and Worcestershire sauce.
Pour the mixture into the instant pot and mix with the beans and stir together.
Turn on saute mode (normal heat). Stir frequently. Add in salt and pepper.
Beans are too watery? Use 2 tablespoons of cornstarch mixed with a little water to make a slurry. Add this while in saute mode and the beans will start to thicken.
Keep in mind, when the beans cool down a little bit, they will thicken on their own.
What can I do with leftover beans?
You can always reheat them the next day and eat them with your next meal.
But, if you want something different to do with them, you can add chopped hot dogs to them for lunch.
Or, you can also add them to the chili when you make it.
Why not try a baked bean sandwich? Just heat the beans and enjoy them on fresh homemade biscuits. You won’t believe how good they are!
