Korean Beef
After a busy day, the last thing I want to do is spend a lot of time in the kitchen making dinner.
That’s where my Instant Pot comes in handy.
Using it means that I can have dinner on the table in around 30 minutes. It’s an easy way to save time in the kitchen.
Tools/equipment to make this recipe
- Instant Pot (Look at these latest models & fancy features on Amazon)
What is Korean beef called?
You are probably thinking of bulgogi which is usually made with marinated beef sirloin. This dish is slightly different since it uses ground beef.
Think of it as an Instant Pot Korean ground beef recipe.
It’s just as delicious and ready in a fraction of the time.
How do you make Instant Pot Korean beef?
- Sautee the ground beef in your Instant Pot.
- Mix the ingredients for your sauce in a measuring cup.
- Pour it over the beef and cook until the sauce thickens.
- Serve over rice.
Should I use soy sauce or coconut aminos?
You can use either one in this recipe. Coconut aminos are gluten-free so they are a wonderful choice if you have problems with gluten.
Soy sauce contains gluten but is a more traditional option.
They will both taste delicious and the flavor is very similar. So, choose the one that you have on hand.
You can also use a low sodium soy sauce if you are concerned about the sodium content.
Can I make this recipe low carb?
Traditionally, Korean beef would be served over rice. But, if you are trying to watch your carbs, you do have a few different options.
You can serve this recipe over riced cauliflower. Or, you can serve it in romaine lettuce leaves and skip the rice entirely.
You can also serve this over glass noodles or rice noodles with you want to try another authentic alternative.
Can I use another ground meat?
Yes, you definitely can. I’ve heard this recipe is quite good with both ground pork and ground turkey.
If you want to make this vegan, you can substitute the meat for tempeh, tofu or a different type of plant-based protein.
Can I make this on the stovetop?
Yes. If you don’t have an Instant Pot, simply saute the ground beef on the stove. Then, add the sauce and cook until thickened.
The recipe is very similar. You will just use your stove instead of the Instant Pot to cook.
What should I top Korean beef with?
I like to add diced spring onions and sesame seeds to the top.
But, you can also try toasted sesame seeds if you like.
What do you serve with this recipe?
If you’ve ever been to a Korean restaurant, you’ll know that side dishes are called banchan and there are quite a few.
You can purchase some of these in the ethnic section of your grocery store. Or, you can try making them on your own.
Here are a few ideas.
- Kimchi is a dish of fermented vegetables
- Pickled yellow daikon is called Danmuji
- Seaweed salad is a popular option
How do I store leftovers?
If you end up with leftovers, you can store them in an air-tight container in the refrigerator. Use them within 3 to 5 days.
To reheat them, just put them in a pan on low heat until they are warm throughout.
