Creamy Bacon Carbonara Recipe

Pasta Carbonara Recipe

When you crave a comforting bowl of creamy pasta, carbonara pasta is all you need. Prepared with spaghetti, bacon, cheese, and egg, this Roman dish will never fail to impress you. What’s more? The pasta gets prepared in 20 minutes. That means you won’t have to spend all of your time in the kitchen.

Despite being a simple dish, I have seen people making mistakes while cooking pasta carbonara. I always recommend adding a pinch of salt to the boiling water as it makes the pasta taste delicious.

Also, I save the boiled pasta water to add further while preparing sauce to enhance the flavors. I do not recommend adding heavy cream to the dish. Instead, you should add eggs and parmesan cheese to make the pasta sauce silky and creamy.

Getting the right pasta sauce consistency on the first attempt is not easy. So, if your sauce turns out to be lumpy, don’t worry. The secret is to practice and improve yourself. Are you ready to prepare spaghetti carbonara with bacon? Read the recipe.

Easy Spaghetti Carbonara Recipe

The beauty of pasta carbonara with bacon lies in its simplicity. But making the dish right on the first attempt is not easy. That’s why I have divided the recipe into different parts so you can easily follow it.

Step One:

The first step to preparing delicious pasta carbonara is taking ½ lb spaghetti. Add it to a pot of salted boiling water. Let it cook for about 7 minutes till it gets al dante.

Pasta Carbonara Step1

Once done, strain the water and put the spaghetti aside. You can also save the pasta water for making sauce.

Step Two:

Take a nonstick frying pan and heat butter. Fry bacon strips on both sides until crispy. Keep the fried bacon strips aside.

Pasta Carbonara Step2

Add boiled spaghetti to the same pan. Cook it for about two minutes.

Step Three:

Meanwhile, whisk egg, salt, pepper, and parmesan cheese into a bowl. Give a thorough mix, so all the ingredients combine together.

Pasta Carbonara Step3

Remove the spaghetti from the heat and slowly pour the egg mixture into the pan. Combine everything till the pasta becomes creamy and delicious. Serve and enjoy with your favorite drink.

Key Notes:

  • As pasta carbonara gets cooked quickly, managing time is important. You must do the preparation beforehand to avoid ruining the dish.
  • Once you have drained the pasta from the salt water, prepare the sauce quickly. Take a bowl and immediately start whisking the eggs. The faster your speed is, the less curdled your cooked pasta becomes.
  • Always toss the pasta in a warm pan, so your pasta carbonara does not become sticky. This method will also keep the pasta warm enough to melt the cheese.
  • Using high-quality parmesan cheese is the secret to making cheesy carbonara pasta.

Is it safe to eat raw eggs in carbonara sauce?

Yes, raw eggs are completely safe in pasta carbonara. The food-safe temperature for eggs is considered to be 160 degrees.

Can I use other cheese in pasta carbonara?

If you don’t have parmesan cheese, replace it with Italian cheese to bring out the same flavors. Roman cheese also tastes the best in pasta carbonara.

Should I reheat pasta carbonara?

Reheating pasta carbonara is not suggested because after reheating, the pasta will not taste the same. Also, when you put the pasta carbonara in the fridge, the sauce thickens and loses its texture. Do not throw away the cold pasta carbonara, as it will taste delicious.
