We’re also talking about grilling hero’s today. Has someone inspired you to get grilling?

For me, growing up my dad always had the barbecue going. Whether it was gas, charcoal at the local park, beach, or at home…

There was always something on the grill where ever we were – all summer long. Who is your grilling hero?

So what do you say, are you ready to make a couple of racks of awesome ribs?

Tip: Remove ribs from refrigerator about 30 minutes before you plan to cook them.

The 30 minute period before cooking is the perfect time to peel off the silver membrane from the backside of the ribs and apply a dry rub if desired.

I’m skipping the dry rub today but feel free to use any rub you like, the BBQ aisle at Walmart has a nice selection or you can use my sugar free dry rub. But with this BBQ sauce, there’s no need for a rub at all – it’s super delish!

Ingredients

  • Smithfield Extra Tender Pork Back Ribs
  • Sweet Berry BBQ Sauce (recipe below)
  • Barbecue dry rub (optional)
  • Smoker box with applewood chips (optional)

Directions

Remove the silver membrane from backside of ribs

Rub ribs if desired; rest for 30 minutes at room temperature

Fill smoker box with applewood chips and place on grill

Preheat grill to 350 degrees F. and maintain heat throughout cook; Oil grill grates once preheated

Place ribs bone side down and cook for 30 to 40 minutes with the lid closed

Flip and grill meat side down for 15 minutes; lid closed

Brush both sides of the ribs with sweet berry BBQ sauce and grill for a few minutes on each side to finish them off

Remove from grill, rest for 10 minutes – adding more sauce if desired

What is a BBQ Smoker Box?

So you might be wondering what’s the deal with the barbecue smoker box.

Okay, it’s a simple contraption that turns your gas grill (or any grill) into a smoker and adds a smokey flavor to your food as it cooks.

There are a wide variety of wood chip flavors available, from hickory to mesquite, and applewood – the list goes on.

We like apple or cherrywood for our pork.

Add the wood chips to the smoker box and place it on the grill before preheating.

Leave it on the grill until you’re done cooking and it has cooled off completely. You can find a smoker box and wood chips right at Walmart while you’re getting your ribs. It’s a fun tool to experiment with on the grill!
