The Middle East is becoming a popular business and tourist destination, for sure. Nonetheless, people might have legitimate concerns about transportation in the region. When somebody thinks of Sharjah, for example, they probably imagine a few ultra-wealthy people riding around in limousines and others standing around waiting for the bus.
It pays to look at each aspect of transportation more carefully and consider what they have to offer. It is only by doing real research that you can make a sound decision about how you want to get to and around the country. In general, a car rental Sharjah is the way to go. But we will explain this and other modes of transportation more fully below.
Getting there
Getting to many parts of the UAE isn’t that difficult. With Sharjah and Dubai in particular being the center of so much global activity, numerous flights from all over the world go there on a daily basis. One thing to keep in mind is that flights are exponentially cheaper if you fly from another major hub, particularly if it is in a country that does a lot of business with the Emirates. So if you can get to one of these places relatively easily, it’s much better to go from there. Moreover, the Emirati airlines are some of the best in the world in terms of quality, service, and safety. And when you arrive, your dream rental car will be waiting for you.
Getting around
Once you’ve arrived in Sharjah or whatever other Emirati airport you land in, it will be time to figure out your ground transportation. There are several options, of course, and you’ll need to take your own personal circumstances into consideration.
Car rental
By far the most convenient and reasonable option for most people is to rent a car. Regardless of what major airport you fly into, you will find numerous options among rental agencies, and they will often have fleets to fit any budget. Renty, for example, is one of the leading agencies, and you can find yourself anything from a sleek BMW to a hybrid to an SUV, depending on your needs.
Going the rental route is highly advisable for many reasons: it will give you the freedom to go where you want when you want. You will not be bound to the schedules of public transportation, forced to carry your things around as you get from place to place, and you won’t be subject to the whims of taxi drivers. Rental agencies offer cars for different periods of time, from hours to whole months, and you can pick up and drop off at numerous convenient locations.
Public transportation
There are some people who want to take public transportation because either they have very little money, they don’t plan on moving around much, or perhaps they are not able to drive themselves. Again, it is not as convenient as getting a car rental, but it is a cheap, readily available option.
Sharjah is well-connected through a network of buses operated by the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA). These buses run frequently and cover major residential, commercial, and industrial areas across the city. Fares are budget-friendly, starting at just a few dirhams, depending on your route and distance.
For those arriving from Dubai or other emirates, intercity buses also make it easy to travel between Sharjah and nearby cities. Though Sharjah doesn’t have a metro system like Dubai, the extensive bus routes and taxi services make it manageable to get around without your own vehicle. If you’re staying within the city and don’t mind a bit of planning, public transport can definitely do the job.
Taxis
There is always the option of getting a taxi if you can afford it and cannot or do not want to get your own car. The official taxis have meters, which is a reliable way to know that you are not getting scammed, but you should always be aware of people offering you a cheap ride who don’t have a meter in their taxi. An average taxi ride from the airport will cost you about 60 dirhams.
If you can afford a taxi, you might be better off renting yourself a fancy car. You will surely be the envy of pedestrians and drivers alike as you cruise around in your new, if only temporary, Porsche.
Book your trip today!
Sharjah is one of the easiest places in the world to get to, and it offers endless fun and activities for visitors. The best option is to get a rental car, although there are many other modes of transportation, as well. So, regardless of how you choose to get around, you should book your trip today and look forward to your dream vacation!
