Steps to Prepare Crunchy Fried Zucchini

Read this step-by-step guide to replicate the same taste.

Step One

For the preparation of fried zucchini, you need one large zucchini. Wash the veggie under running water and dry it. Cut both the ends of the zucchini. Try making even and thin slices so the zucchini can be quickly fried.

Pro tip: If the zucchini slices are too watery, place them on parchment paper and sprinkle some salt. Cover the slices with a towel, so the extra moisture gets absorbed. You can either cut the zucchini vertically or horizontally. I like to keep the fried zucchini bite sized. So, I prefer horizontal cuts.

Step Two

This step requires you to prepare the batter that will be used for dipping the zucchini slices.

For the batter, you need a small mixing bowl in which you will add 3/4 cups of breadcrumbs. Add pepper, garlic powder, salt, and paprika powder to the breadcrumbs. Take another bowl and lightly whisk one egg. Then keep the egg aside. In another bowl, you can keep 1/2 cup of flour.

Step Three

After preparing the batter and thinly slicing the zucchini, you must fry them. Warm some oil in a pan. Take a thin zucchini slice, dip it into the flour, then in a whisked egg, and finally in the breadcrumbs.

You must properly fry the zucchini slices for two minutes on each side. Serve and enjoy the fried zucchini with any of the dips of your choice.

Key Notes:

  • You can use an air fryer if you do not want to fry zucchini in oil. Preheat the air fryer and place the zucchini slices in a single layer. Cook the slices for around 8 minutes, making them crispy and golden.
  • You can also bake the zucchini slices without oil by placing a single layer of zucchini slices on parchment paper. Bake the slices for about 20 minutes.
  • While frying, do not let the zucchini slices overlap because both sides will not be properly cooked.
  • To wet the zucchini slices, substitute whisked egg with 2-3 cups milk.

How to keep fried zucchini from getting soggy?

Even if you are using perfectly crisp zucchini, it can turn soggy. But there’s a way to stop them from getting soggy. You can eliminate the excess water by sprinkling salt on the top of the slices. Also, you must avoid adding too much oil to the frying pan.

What to serve with fried zucchini?

You can serve tasty dips like tomato ketchup, ranch, and marinara sauce with fried zucchini. Besides this, roasted chicken, pizza, and hamburgers make an ideal side choice.

How to freeze fried zucchini?

If you want to freeze fried zucchini, place each slice on parchment paper in a single layer. Until the slices get frozen solid, you must flash freeze them. The frozen fried zucchini slices can stay for up to three months in a zip-top bag.

How to reheat fried zucchini?

If you have leftover fried zucchini that you want to reheat, you must use an oven. Place the slices in a preheated oven for 5-7 minutes before you start enjoying them.
