Turkey Meatballs

Happiness rolled into turkey balls!

Let’s talk meatballs. Kids love mini turkey meatballs because they taste delicious, and adults love them because they are easy winners for dinner.

Packed with flavors and moisture from the inside, these turkey meatballs can make anyone fall in love. A right balance of dried herbs and fresh ground turkey creates a perfect blend of flavors.

Season the meatballs with the right spices, and you will never get the flavors wrong. Once you have cooked turkey meatballs, enjoy them with sandwiches or spaghetti, or bathe them in plenty of tangy tomato sauce to prepare meatballs with gravy.

My version of healthy meatballs tastes so good that I could eat them straight from the pan. However, once you get hooked on the flavors, you cannot stop yourself from preparing roasted turkey meatballs repeatedly.

It’s not a fancy recipe that requires you to do intense grocery shopping. Instead, you can cook the best turkey balls in the oven with several ingredients.

Before sharing the recipe, I want to share a story. A few weeks back, we were having a family get-together. My brother and I were talking about the food we liked. That’s when he said he had not had delicious oven-roasted turkey meatballs in a very long time.

So, I took it as a responsibility to serve my brother spicy turkey meatballs. As all the ingredients were easily available, it took me less than an hour to prepare meatballs. Let me tell you; he enjoyed the homemade turkey meatballs as much as I enjoyed making them.

Well, enough of story time; let’s get into the best turkey meatball recipe baked.

Steps to Make Easy Turkey Meatballs

I have divided cooking turkey meatballs into two steps: the first is preparation, and the next is baking.

Step One:

The best way to cook turkey meatballs is by mixing ground turkey, paprika powder, dried oregano, pepper, garlic powder, and salt. After that, add eggs and breadcrumbs. Mix everything until properly combined.

Then make small turkey balls from the combined mixture. Keep the rolled turkey meatballs on a plate and set it aside.

Step Two:

To cook turkey meatballs, you need a baking tray. Put a piece of parchment paper on the top of the tray and drizzle some olive oil. Then carefully transfer the rolled meatballs to the tray without breaking the balls.

Put the tray in an already heated oven for around half an hour. Serve with your favorite dish and enjoy.

Key Notes:

  • Turkey meatballs taste delicious, but they can dry out quickly. So, you can add a little olive oil to the mixture to keep the meatballs moist from the inside for a long time. You can even mix dark turkey meat with white turkey meat to keep the meatballs nice and moist.
  • Try making even turkey balls so they are cooked properly. Ideally, you can use a cookie scoop to keep the balls the same size.
  • You can make the meatballs more delicious by adding a few more ingredients. For instance, you can add fresh herbs and grated cheese. You can also add extra spices to intensify the flavors of your dish.
  • Do not press the balls while rolling because the meatballs might turn into meat discs.

What can I use instead of breadcrumbs?

If you do not have breadcrumbs, the best alternative is crushed-up crackers. The crackers work just as breadcrumbs, giving meatballs the right flavor and taste.

Why is turkey meatball rubbery?

The only way turkey meatballs can turn rubbery is when you have overcooked them. So, first, you should gently form the turkey balls to stop the meatballs from turning rubbery. After that, cook the meatballs for the suggested time, not more or less.

Can I avoid adding an egg to my turkey meatball?

Adding an egg is important because it acts as a binder. It brings together all the ingredients, so nothing falls apart. Even if you are not using eggs, you should still use a binder. Skipping on the binger might not result in the best meatballs.

Can I make gluten-free turkey meatballs?

Yes, you can make gluten-free turkey meatballs. It will taste as delicious and yummy as the usual one. For this, you need gluten-free breadcrumbs and follow the same preparation process.

But the biggest challenge in making gluten-free turkey meatballs is that it starts falling apart. The best thing you can do is add a binder in a controlled amount. You can also brown the meatballs before baking, so they stay in shape.

Should I add too many breadcrumbs?

Adding too many breadcrumbs can change the taste and texture of meatballs. It can also make the meatballs dry.
