House Cleaning Checklist

If you are looking for a cleaning house checklist, here are a few things that need to be done to clean your entire house.

While you’re thinking about spring cleaning, the first thing that you need to do is to declutter your rooms and do general cleaning.

You might even learn that it’s time to have a garage sale.

And, don’t forget the outside of your home while you’re inside. This fall home maintenance checklist is super helpful.

Have a plan

Using our cleaning checklist will help ensure that you don’t miss anything.

Every room is slightly different but this is what needs to be done everywhere.

Always work from left to right and top to bottom.

Declutter and pickup

Decluttering your home will not only help you clean up, but it will help your home feel more open and spacious. You’ll be surprised how much room you’ll have when you declutter.

Put things where they go and toss things that you no longer need.

Clear surfaces will always look neater than those with piles of things on top of them.

If the item doesn’t have a place to go, find one.

Dust

Use a microfiber cloth to minimize allergies. And, dust all of your surfaces moving from left to right and top to bottom.

You can use a microfiber mop or Swiffer Duster with an extension handle (get one here) to reach high places like the tops of cabinets or your ceiling fan.

Don’t forget to wipe down your cabinets and the window sills in each room.

Vacuum and mop

Vacuum all the carpets and hard surface floors such as hardwood and tile.

After they’re vacuumed and small sandy particles are removed, mop all of the hard surface floors.

Vacuuming before mopping removes small sandy particles that can scratch your hardwood and hard surface flooring. An alternative to a mop is the Swiffer Wet Jet. This is what we use on all of our hardwood and tile floors.

We’ve had a Shark brand vacuum for years and highly recommend getting one!

Don’t forget to move the furniture when you can to get underneath.

You will also need to vacuum under couch cushions.

Deep clean specific areas

Each room has a specific area that should be deep cleaned.

In the kitchen, this is often your refrigerator and stove.

In the bathroom, this will be the toilet, bathtub, and surrounding areas.

Bedrooms may include under the bed where dust likes to collect, inside your closet to declutter, and flipping the mattress. Don’t forget to wash the pillows. Check out my helpful tips on how to wash pillows so you don’t ruin them..

Clean your windows

Wash the windows both inside and out. Using a streak-free glass cleaner will help your home look fresh and clean.

If you cannot reach high windows, a squeegee with a telescoping arm can be helpful.
