Summer Road Trip Bargain Hunting

Aside from scoring a deal on motor oil, I’ll also touch on a couple other summer road trip savings tips that I use to save time and money. Searching the internet for deals can take hours – and time equals money in my house! So, my tip to you is stop wasting money surfing the web endlessly to save an extra five bucks – your time is worth more than that. Instead of endless searching, I have a few tips to help you find the best deals online…

1. Finding Hotel Deals On The Road

All of us love to think we have planned everything to a T. Well, even our best laid plans don’t always seem to work out as they should. For those times when our GPS fails us or we end up sitting in traffic for hours only to end up 100 miles from where we thought we were going to spend the night, we need to have a backup plan to save money and score a deal on a hotel while on the road.

My plan: Have 3 websites bookmarked in my phone. We all have our favorite travel websites where we always end up scoring the best deal. Bookmark those websites for easy access in your phone. Now, when you end up off course, you can simply click back and forth between the three websites to score the best deal on your hotel!

2. DIY Oil Change

Let’s get our car ready for our summer road trip! Hop over to for all your road trip necessities, inluding scoring a deal on motor oil!

Be Prepared for Summer Road Trips

I’m beginning by picking up Pennzoil Platinum® Full Synthetic motor oil, which happens to be on Rollback, like a lot of the Pennzoil products are right now – cha-ching! We’re already saving time and money by skipping the lines at the store and scoring a Rollback deal. You can either have it delivered right to your home, pick up in store or even take advantage of curbside assistance at Walmart!

Keeping our Jeep running in tip-top shape is important to me, and Pennzoil Platinum® Full Synthetic helps keep the engine clean and allows us to drive on average an extra 550 miles per year vs running a dirty engine with sludge that may have been left behind by lesser oils. The Pennzoil Platinum® Full Synthetic  provides the best protection in the Pennzoil line up and keeps pistons up to 40% cleaner than industry standards. Plus, the PurePlus™ Technology is a revolutionary process that converts natural gas into a 99.5% pure base oil. – cool hun? So, we protect our engine from friction with the best, Pennzoil Platinum® Full Synthetic.

If your vehicle has high miles (over 75k) check out the Pennzoil Platinum® High Mileage motor oil. The Pennzoil High Mileage will help reduce oil consumption and leaks in worn higher mileage vehicles. It’s specifically designed for later model cars, trucks and SUVs with more than 75000 miles and helps to keep engines running clean and going strong!

3. More Road Trip Essentials

While you’re at, don’t forget to grab all your other road trip essentials and car care products.

Finally, we’ll also be buying suntan lotion, a few new beach towels, chairs and a bin to hold things in and prevent stuff from rolling around in the car — and probably a whole mess of other stuff! There are often things we can find at Walmart online which are not available in our store – so we’re going to end up with some really cool stuff! Who knows where the summer road will take us! Always be prepared!

4. Discount Park Passes

You can do this before leaving home, or while on the road. There are a number of ways to score discount park passes for your family. Scouring the internet for hours may cost you more time and money than you actually save when you find a deal you like.

Much like finding a hotel, I recommend looking at only three places online. Why? Because you can spend hours and hours trying to find the best price, but in the end – you’ve spent more time than money saved. Your time is valuable!

The two places I check first are the park website itself and the city visitors center or chamber of commerce. These two sites will often result in finding the best deals. If you already have a favorite site where you like to shop for park passes, add it to the list.

Park Website

Parks often offer discount passes on their website because the overhead is less for them to sell you tickets in advance rather than at the gate. They also make more money selling the tickets direct rather than through an affiliate. Check the website of the park you’ll be visiting.

Visitors Center

Most states, cities and towns will have a website where you can search for discount park passes, or the places they recommend you purchase your park passes from. Whether you’re planning to visit an amusement park or a historical park, you can find this information on the visitors center website. Don’t be bashful either. If you’re planning your trip in advance, email and ask where you can find the best discounted tickets for the park you’d like to visit! These people know their parks!
