Today we’re firing up the gas grill, getting out our smoking tube and making a fantastic low sugar orange BBQ sauce to slather on our Smithfield Extra Tender Pork St Louis Style Ribs. The sauce is easy to make and the ribs will be grilled hot and fast. We’ve done apple cider back ribs, we’ve done a delicious easy back ribs with a mop sauce, and now we’re doing a low sugar orange BBQ sauce recipe with Smithfield Extra Tender Pork St. Louis Style ribs grilled fast!

We scooped up a sweet deal on ribs at Walmart, so why not make ’em for an easy weeknight meal?

How to grill pork ribs fast on gas grill

It’s time to get our ribs on! We’re cooking a slab of Smithfield Extra Tender Pork St. Louis Style Ribs, and it’s going to take only about 45 minutes to perfection! Let’s get to it!


Preheat your grill to 350 degrees F. Typically this is low to medium setting on your gas grill. You may even need to turn a burner or two off depending on the size of your grill. Maintain about 350 degrees F. for the duration of the cook.

Grill Ribs Fast on Gas Grill

Start by rubbing your ribs with your preferred rub. Feel free to use my sugar free rub recipe. Or use any rub you like. Even just salt and pepper will do.

Now let’s make the low sugar barbecue sauce. Just like grilling ribs, this is simple. You can make the sauce while your ribs are absorbing the rub or ahead of time.

Low Sugar BBQ Sauce Recipe - Grilled Pork Ribs Fast

Low Sugar Orange BBQ Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/2 yellow onion, minced
  • 1 small jalapeno, minced
  • 3 tbs minced garlic
  • 1 cup low sugar ketchup
  • 1/2 cup sugar free orange preserves
  • Juice squeezed from one Mandarin orange
  • 1 + 1/2 tbs dijon mustard
  • 1 + 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 + 1/2 tsp hickory liquid smoke

Directions

  • In a saucepan over medium heat cook the onion, jalapeno and garlic until the onion is soft and almost translucent; turn heat down.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients to the pan, stir and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until thickened. Stir occasionally.

Grilling Ribs Fast – St. Louis Style Ribs

Ingredients

  • Smithfield Extra Tender Pork St. Louis Style Ribs, membrane removed
  • Dry rub (sugar free rub, or your favorite rub)
  • BBQ sauce (see recipe above)

Directions

  • About half to one hour before grilling, apply your rub liberally on all sides of ribs. Set aside at room temperature. (make your BBQ sauce now)
  • Start your smoker tube with hickory pellets (enough for a 1 hour cook) and place it on one side of your grill
  • Heat grill to 350 degrees and oil your grates as usual; maintain heat throughout cook
  • Place ribs on grill bone side down
  • Cook for 30 minutes
  • Flip and grill meat side down for 15 minutes.
  • Brush sauce on the bone side, flip and brush sauce on the meat side. Grill for a few more minutes to finish it off.
  • Remove from grill, sauce again and allow to rest for 10-15 minutes
  • Cut and serve with Mandarin oranges or your choice of sides

Pro Tips:

  • Slide a knife under the membrane to get it started then use a paper towel to provide grip to peel the membrane off the backside of the ribs
  • Be sure you have enough propane to make it all the way through the cook 😉
  • Cook with the lid closed. If you’re lookin’ you ain’t cookin’!

Grill Ribs Fast

Some people are intimidated by ribs. Don’t be, they’re really easy to do. I’ve grilled ribs just about every way imaginable. From easy BBQ ribs to delicious apple cider ribs and now we’re doing some fast grilled ribs with a low sugar orange BBQ sauce.

Sugar Free Orange BBQ Sauce and Grilled Ribs!

Ingredients

Low Sugar Orange BBQ Sauce

  • 1/2 yellow onion minced

  • Smithfield Extra Tender Pork St. Louis Style Ribs membrane removed
  • Dry rub
  • BBQ sauce

Instructions

Low Sugar Orange BBQ Sauce

  • In a saucepan over medium heat cook minced onion, jalapeno and garlic until the onion is soft and almost translucent; turn heat down to low
  • Add the rest of the ingredients to the pan and simmer, stirring occasionally for 15-20 minutes or until thickened.
  • Yields enough to liberally complete one rack of ribs

Ribs

  • About half to one hour before grilling, apply your rub liberally on all sides of ribs. Set aside at room temperature.
  • Heat grill to 350 degrees; maintain heat throughout cook
  • Start your smoker tube with hickory pellets and oil your grates as usual
  • Place ribs on grill bone side down, cook for 30-40 minutes
  • Flip and grill meat side down for 15 minutes.
  • Brush sauce on the bone side, flip and brush sauce on the meat side. Grill for a couple of minutes each side to finish it off
  • Remove from grill, sauce again and allow to rest for 10 minutes
  • Cut and serve with Mandarin oranges or your choice of sides
