When you’re cooking this BBQ sauce, you’ll really think you’re at a mid-fall carnival. The aroma of apples, onions and apple beer wafting through the air will have your neighbors peeking over the fence to see what smells so good. It may smell so good that your neighbors will be looking for an excuse to stop by – you may finally get those hedge trimmers back! 😉

Homemade BBQ Sauce on the Grill

For today’s BBQ we stopped by Price Chopper, or as we call it here in New England – “Price Choppah”. We picked up some of our BBQ favorites like 90% fat free Certified Angus Beef, Ballpark Franks and of course, no BBQ is complete without some beer – REDD’S Apple, Green Apple and Strawberry Ale, plus a six pack of Limited Release Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy.

For beer we grabbed a Pick Different Pack (REDD’S party pack) of the REDD’S Apple Ale, which came with REDD’S Green Apple Ale, REDD’S Apple Ale and REDD’S Strawberry Ale. All of the REDD’S Ales are great, the green apple is the one we chose for our recipe – a sweet apple BBQ sauce is what we are making to top our burgers and hot dogs. You literally don’t need anything else on your burgers, it’s that good!

Barbecue Hot Dogs and Hamburgers

We also wanted to try a new beer, so we picked up a six pack of the Limited Release Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy. The Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy has a lemon flavor and is quite refreshing. It’s a perfect beer for a hot summer afternoon BBQ!

We’re grilling up America’s favorite BBQ foods today, burgers and dogs. I like to add an egg to my burgers before forming the patties. Crack an egg into a bowl with your beef, mix it well and then form the patties. It gives the burgers a little extra zing and helps them cook more evenly on the grill.

Onto the recipe for this delicious REDD’S Green Apple Ale BBQ Sauce. We’re going to use a fresh granny smith apple, a whole yellow onion, some brown sugar, ketchup, chili powder, salt, pepper and of course REDD’S Green Apple Ale and Coca-Cola (see instructions below).

We decided on the Green Apple Ale and a Granny Smith apple because this would make for a sweeter BBQ sauce than the REDD’S Apple Ale and a Red Delicious apple. If you wish to have your sauce tart rather than sweet, go with the red apple and original REDD’S Apple Ale.

Easy Apple BBQ Sauce Recipe

We picked up all of our ingredients at our local Price Chopper store. You may know them as Market 32 in your area. Everything we needed including the REDD’S Green Apple Ale, Coca-Cola, Ball Park Franks, Certified Angus Beef and granny smith apples. Everything was conveniently located and easy to find.

Because of such a great experience that I had purchasing Miller Coors brand beers at Price Chopper, and the great BBQ sauce we made with REDD’S Green Apple Ale, I always make sure to get Miller Coors beers at The Canoe Club, Salt Hill Pub and Ziggy’s Sports Bar in Hanover and Lebanon, New Hampshire.
