3 Day Escape to Phuket

Day 1: Arrival and Embracing the Excitement

Touchdown in Phuket

The plane began to descend, and my heart leaped. Below me, the emerald green waters and lush tropical landscape of Phuket were visible through the plane window, promising an adventure.

To plan your trip though, you initially come to Bangkok; from there on you’ll take separate flight for Phuket. I took V8 Jet Airline, which is quite economical and takes 1.5 hours to reach Phuket.

Stepping out of the plane, the warm tropical air wrapped me, whispering about some tales of fairies for a bewitching island beauty.

Generally, the best time to travel to thailand is winter – November to Feb because its slightly pleasant during this time. Otherwise Thailand is usually hot and humid throughout the year.

Transfer to Hotel: A Ride Through Paradise

The journey from the airport to my hotel was nothing short of magical. It takes at least an hour to drive to the central Phuket since attractions are quite far from the airport.

Riding through the curves of the path, with the long towering palm trees falling from either side, it was more than bewildering to watch the scenic beauty that was opening up before me.

You can also rent a car; if you have international driving licence, you can ride yourself, else you can always have a driver.

The azure waters glistened with the sun, the locals going about with their everyday business, coupled with the quaint houses scattered across the landscape – the magical life in Phuket.

Epic of Sensations – Patong Beach

If you’re seeking a private, secluded experience in Phuket, several exclusive resorts offer just that. Places like Trisara Resort, The Shore at Katathani, or Anantara Layan Phuket Resort provide an intimate and guarded environment, perfect for those who wish to unwind in peace.

However, if you prefer a more vibrant atmosphere infused with nightlife and beach activities, consider staying closer to Patong Beach. This bustling area is renowned for its lively streets, night markets, and clubs. Here, you can enjoy the best of both worlds – relaxing on the beach during the day and immersing yourself in the lively nightlife once the sun sets.

I stayed at Royal Paradise, which is a few kilometers away from Bungla Street.

Patong Beach marked my beginning. A soft, warm feeling went through me as my feet touched the fine, heated sand, and I could almost smell one not too far away from where the waves gently slapped against the beach.

The salty sea breeze blew through my hair, and I watched as the clear blue extended into eternity. I strolled at the easy pace of beach life and watched people in water sports and sand castles. The energy was infectious, and I could hardly wait to jump into the action.

Karon View Point: A Delight for the Eyes

Towards the late afternoon, I paid a visit to the Karon View Point. Standing there, I was stuck with the panoramic view of Kata Noi, Kata, and Karon beaches. The blue-green sea contrasted well with the white sandy beaches and the rich green vegetation. The viewpoint, true to its name, provided a picture-perfect postcard view of Phuket.

Evening at Bangla Road: A Riot of Colors and Flavors

Postcard view over, I headed towards Bangla Road where the life of Phuket reaches its zenith. I gulped with awe – neon lights were flowing through the street with bright colors as music beat out from every bar and club.

The street was filled with the scent of delicious street food that even had my salivary glands working full force. So, this evening, I’ve been sipping exotic cocktails and delighting myself in the local food while swaying to the rhythm of music.

If you’re visiting with your friends, this is your place to enjoy the night life there.

Coming back to my hotel, my heart was full of joy and excitement, because I knew this was just the beginning of the whole adventure.

Day 2: Island Hopping and Unforgettable Adventures

Breakfast and Preparation: The Best Start of a Day

I woke up the moment the first rays of dawn broke into my room. Freshening up, I started walking in search of breakfast. The breakfast list at the hotel included various delicious local and continental dishes. I did take a bit of everything that was laid there, enjoying its taste as I had a picture in my mind of what my day was going to be like.

I would suggest you keep an umbrella, sunglasses and sunscreen with you.

Journey to the Viking Cave: A Taste of History

While we were on our way towards Phi Phi Island, our boat made a halt at the Viking Cave

If you’re traveling with kids, you shouldn’t travel on speed boat which will be extremely bumpy for them (they might start puking). It’s better to have a family cruise – a big boat. You will have the liberty to stop at different islands. It may be a little slower but it’s a safer option with family.

The moment I stepped in, it was like a journey in time. The walls are decorated with interesting pictures of the cave and telling stories of an ancient civilization. It gives some mystery to that eerie stillness that reigns inside and can only occasionally be bothered by some drip of water.

James Bond Island: Icon to Visit at Least Once

Next up was the famous James Bond Island, named after the part featured in the movie “The Man with the Golden Gun.” The soaring limestone cliffs jutting right out from the water and the emerald green seemed like a marvelous scene. I took many pictures to somehow grasp the real beauty of the place.

We then sailed off to Phi Phi Island. What bliss it was being out on the boat, the wind in my hair, and nothing but the sea all around me. Beautiful as it is imagined to be, with the clear turquoise waters, the white sand, and the lush green of Phi Phi Island, I enjoyed every sight and sensation. I had an amazing time indulging in sighting flora and fauna under the sea.

For lunch, we dined in one of the local restaurants around Phi Phi Don. The menu consisted of traditional Thai cuisine that put every dish on display with rich, exotic flavors. I liked the Tom Yum soup and the Pad Thai; their flavors were well-balanced, tangy yet spicy.

Visit to Maya Bay: Afternoons of Dreaminess

After having our lunch, we visited Maya Bay, which is where the famous movie “The Beach” was shot. The place was no less than paradise, with a crystal clear sea and long touching cliffs.

Rest and a Return to Hotel: The Day Couldn’t End More Amazingly

As the day closed in, we sailed back to the hotel. I sat on the deck of the boat and watched the sun slowly dissolving under the horizon – orange and pink sky. Back at the hotel, I hit the bed, tired but content, looking forward to another day of exploring Phuket.

Day 3: Cultural Exploration and Fond Farewells

It all started with our visit to the most famous symbol of Phuket – Big Buddha – whose figure is visible from almost anywhere on the island. While climbing the steps towards the statue, one could feel the peace descending on them.

The view from the top, was just breathtaking, it gave a panoramic view of Phuket. Later, I visited the most significant temple in Phuket, which was Wat Chalong. The artistic work in this temple and the serenity of the environment were just simply awesome.

Discover Old Phuket Town: Walking Back in Time

Next, I headed over to Old Phuket Town; it is very popular because of its Sino-Portuguese architecture, so I heard. The colorful buildings and their characters truly look like they were from some bygone time. I walked around Thalang Road, admiring the maintained Sino-colonial style and street art on an outstanding level.

But inside, markets are still crowded and noisy – with all kinds of colors and sounds from local fresh produce sellers to souvenirs meticulously handcrafted by the locals.

Visit to Tiger Temple and Elephant Sanctuary: Date with Nature

My next stop was the Tiger Temple where I had a chance to see King Beasts in reality. You could snap photos with Tigers. It was a truly unforgettable experience. A bit later, I got to the elephant sanctuary where I had a chance to feed and bathe these kind giants. It was good to see that the animals are looked after in a safe and natural environment.

Lunch at the Local Restaurant: Outstanding Culinary Experience

Then came lunchtime at a local restaurant, which had some real Thai cuisine, in loud flavors, tasty, with a very aromatic combination of sweetness, saltiness, and hotness – enjoyed each mouthful.

Did last-minute shopping for souvenirs before heading back to the airport. Bought the best souvenirs from Phuket, where there were handmade jewelry, silk scarves, and native spices.

Visited Central World Mall for branded shopping too. The mall is rather spacious, with a great variety of international and local labels.

Departure: Reflection of the Well-Performed Journey

Sitting at the airport and waiting for a plane that would take us home, I couldn’t help making a reflection on a great trip to Phuket. It was so delightful, from the beautiful beaches and thrilling nightlife to the elegant culture and delightful cuisine. I glanced out the window at the diminishing lights of Phuket, promising to myself that I’d definitely return to that place one day.

Traveling Hacks for 3 Days Escape to Phuket

Phuket for a 3-day holiday could really turn out to be an exciting and fun escapade. Some of the travel hacks and tips for one to get the most out of the trip are listed below:

  • Savvy deals: Use travel websites like Traveloka to scout for excellent deals on your flights and accommodations. This can really save a lot of your money, and you can spend it on other experiences in Phuket.
  • Stay in the Right Area: Depending on what you want from the trip, choose your accommodation accordingly. If you want really vibrant nightlife, then it’s Patong. For quieter beaches, it would be Kata or Karon.
  • Make an itinerary plan: Make a well-organized itinerary so that you can visit most of the important sightseeing places without a hurry. Do include beaches, cultural spots, and local markets in your list.
  • Try Local Cuisine: Don’t deprive yourself of authentic Thai food. Look out for local restaurants or street food hawkers to feed your gastronomic adventure.
  • Use Public Transport: The taxis in Phuket are very expensive. Use public transport or hire a motorbike for short distances.
  • Pack Smart: Pack light, but don’t forget essentials such as sunblock, insect repellent, and your beachwear. A waterproof bag might come in handy for boating.
  • Respect Local Customs: Ensure to dress soberly when visiting temples. Also not set the soles of your feet pointing at people or any religious images – it’s very disrespectful.
  • Shop in local markets: Forget about all those expensive touristy shops while buying souvenirs and get to local markets. Here you can buy everything from handmade jewelry to silk scarves and local spices.

Remember, flexibility and openness to new experiences are all you need to properly enjoy the trip.

Plug Section

As with any other region of Thailand, in Phuket, there are power plugs of various types, including Types A, B, C, F, and O. In all probability, these are the Type A and B plugs that are familiar to you and which feature the two flat and parallel pins. Type C, also known as the Euro plug, basically consists of two round pins.

One of the most common among the diverse types of sockets is the hybrid socket used in Thailand; it can be inserted into all of the plug types mentioned above. In short, your appliances should be able to plug and play without a hitch, whether your plug has flat pins, as in the US, or round pins, as in much of Europe.

But you can never be too sure. You might also consider purchasing a universal travel adapter for when you will be leaving for Phuket. This way, regardless of the type of plug your gadgets may come with, you will be able to charge them upon arrival in Thailand.
