What Kind of Meat is BBQ Steak Tips?

Steak tips are tender cut-off strips from beef roast. Each bite of this super tender cut melts in the mouth like butter. Many people believe steak tips are cuts from any part of the cow, which is not true.

In reality, steak tips are a specific cut of meat. They are not like sirloin tip or tri-tip. Steak tips generally come from two parts of the cow.

The first is the expensive and tender cut, which comes from the middle part of the cow. These are superior cuts but aren’t labeled as steak tips on the packaging.

Another type of steak tips come from muscle in sirloin and round parts. These parts are labeled as steak tips and purchased from the market.

How to Prepare Steak on BBQ Tips

If you are preparing a beef sirloin tip steak grill for the first time, cooking instructions can be confusing. That’s why I divided the preparation steps into different parts for you to easily understand and replicate them.

Step One:

To prepare tri tip steak temp, take the steak out of the refrigerator. Use a paper towel to remove extra moisture so your steak can become chewy and juicy.

Once done, coat both sides of the steak with oil and then with salt and pepper. Keep the steak tips aside and prepare the grill.

Step Two:

To achieve the right flavoring, texture, and tenderness, preheat the high to about 500 F. Following this, place the seasoned steak on the top of the grill and let it cook for a given time on each side.

Grill the meat for 4 minutes on both sides for a medium-rare steak. Likewise, for a medium cook, keep the steak on the grill for 5 minutes. But cook the steak for about 7 minutes to get a perfect medium-well steak.

The time to prepare steak tips varies depending on the cut’s thickness. Thus, cook the steak depending on your taste.

Key Tips:

  • To prepare sirloin tip steak on a grill for a lower sodium version, you must increase the amount of olive oil. Likewise, decreasing the amount of soy sauce also works.
  • Mix soy sauce, honey, ginger, vinegar, oil, and garlic in a bowl to create a perfect marination for your BBQ beef tri-tip. Let the meat marinate for about an hour to achieve that extra flavoring. Maximum marinating time should not be longer than four hours.
  • If you marinate grill steak tips in the fridge, make sure to bring it to room temperature before grilling. Cooking meat at room temperature allows it to get tender and a lip-smacking flavor.
