It doesn’t get much simpler than this folks, we’re going to make a quick dry rub and mop sauce – then get to grilling!

Easy Recipe for Rib Dry Rub

Rib Dry Rub Recipe

This dry rub recipe will do one rack of ribs.

Ingredients:

  • 3 Tbs Paprika
  • 2 Tbs Brown sugar
  • 2 Tbs Cocoa powder
  • 1 Tbs Salt
  • 1 Tbs Pepper
  • 1 Tbs Garlic powder
  • 1 Tbs Chili powder
  • 1 Tsp Cayenne pepper

Directions: Mix everything together with a fork, rub on both sides of the ribs 15 minutes before tossing on the barbecue!

There’s your simple BBQ ribs dry rub recipe. Now onto the Mop Sauce!

Rib Mop Sauce Recipe

Mop Sauce Recipe

To make the mop sauce we’ll use equal parts of each of the following ingredients. Today we’re grilling one Smithfield Extra Tender Ribs, so 1/4 cup of each will be just enough to mop the ribs every 20 minutes. If you’re grilling two racks of ribs, simply double the recipe.

  • ¼ cup Ketchup
  • ¼ cup Dijon mustard
  • ¼ cup Honey
  • ¼ cup Red wine vinegar

Direction: Mix everything together with a whisk, mop on your BBQ ribs every 15 to 30 minutes until it’s time to slather with BBQ sauce.

Slather

Slathering made easy – grab a bottle of KC Masterpiece BBQ Sauce while you’re at Walmart and you’re ready to slather during the last phase of your barbecuing session. Make it easy on yourself, if you mopped every 20 minutes, you’ll have an empty mop sauce bowl; put the BBQ sauce in the bowl and use the mop to slather your rack of ribs.

I like to slather my ribs at about 1 hours 45 minutes into our barbecuing session, just about the same time I toss on my asparagus or other veggies. When I slather my ribs, I flip them meaty side down for a few minutes to give them a nice bit of char. Flip them back to meaty side up when you turn your vegetables.

Three Step Grilled Ribs

Easy BBQ Ribs Recipe – Rub, Mop and Slather

Prepare your grill by placing a tin pan half filled with water, beneath the grates on the side you’ll be placing your ribs. You want to cook your ribs over indirect heat. Place a big pile of charcoal beside the pan. Set aside 2 to 2½ hours to grill a rack of ribs. Replenish charcoal as needed. Bring the ribs up to 205 F. internal temperature for nice tender ribs that will fall off the bone.

Indirect heating tip: Place a tin 1/2 full of water to one to one side of the grill, your charcoal on the other. The water pan will help catch drippings and help keep your ribs moist!

  • Place a tin filled half way with water in the bottom of the grill
  • Flank the tin with charcoal
  • Light and prepare charcoal & preheat grill to medium; about 350 degrees on your thermometer

Grilling the Ribs

  • Prepare the grill
  • Optional: Remove membrane from back side of ribs (Watch how Moe Cason does it in the video below!)
  • Rub your ribs inside and out with the dry rub (recipe above)
  • Place ribs meaty side up on the preheated grill, over the tin
  • Grill with the lid closed, bottom vent open, top vent 1/2 way open
  • Apply mop sauce every 15 to 30 minutes
  • For the final 15 minutes of grilling, slather the ribs with KC Masterpiece BBQ Sauce and toss on your veggies
  • Total grill time is 1½ to 2 hours
  • Check grill temperature when you mop, make sure the grill stays at about 350 degrees, add charcoal as needed and instructed on your charcoal bag.
  • Ribs are best at about 205 degrees F. as this is when the connective tissue breaks down and make juicy fall off the bone ribs!

Temperature tip: Hover your hand 2 to 3 inches above the grill, count 1, 2, 3, 4… if it’s too hot to continue holding your hand there in 4 seconds or less, the grill is hot enough! If not, consider carefully adding more charcoal.

3 Step Grilled Rack of Ribs

Once your ribs are finished, remove them from the grill and allow them to rest for 10 minutes. Cut the ribs, slicing between each bone leaving equal amounts of meat on each side.

Rub, Mop & Slather for the perfect BBQ ribs! Regardless of your grilling ability, you can grill these ribs like a pro. Like I said before – begin with a quality rib, like Smithfield Extra Tender Ribs, and you’ll impress your guests with your amazing grilling skills!

Now that you know how to grill a great rack of ribs, how about you enter for your chance to win a new truck?
