Either way, I’m going to share a little bit about us today.

Valentine’s Day Love

Valentine’s Day marks our 1/2 year anniversary. We celebrate our half-year anniversary because it falls on February 14th, so why not? It works out perfectly!

What sealed the deal?

Well, I’ll tell you one thing. It wasn’t the night I met her when she invited me to some sketchy back-alley bar.

She said, “park your car on such-n-such street, walk down the alley and you’ll see the door, just meet me inside.” Riiight, just walk down the back alley in the sketchy part of town to some hole in the wall bar!

Nope, nope, nope, not gonna happen. Sorry babe.

I didn’t go to the bar…but we did keep in touch and thus began our relationship. I kinda knew from the get-go that she was perfect for me.

This part of our story is more personal, and a story very few of you have heard. A few months after we began dating I had an unexpected medical anomaly and ended up in the neuroscience ICU for about a week.

Katie stayed by my side through all of the uncertainty, and she got to know my family real quick as they filtered in and out of my room — ha! Sorry hon!

Anyway, there we sat in the ER learning I had a mysterious, massive brain bleed. Death was knocking and the doctors seemed clueless, only surprised I was still walking and talking.

It was then that I gave her the out. We hadn’t been together long. I told Katie she could leave. She didn’t need to stay and watch me die.

She didn’t go. She stayed day and night, sleeping on the uncomfortable bedside chair; except for one night when the mean night nurse made her leave.

She even walked with me as I was wheeled to surgery. After days of tests and finally surgery, I pulled through.

Katie stood by my side and helped me down the long road of recovery, one stutter at a time.

My stutter is gone, but she’s still here, and still the one. So, yeah, that kinda sealed the deal.

As The Beatles would say… Love Is All You Need!

Chocolate lovers trifles recipe for Valentine's Day

Makes 2 Mason Jar Trifles

Ingredients

  • 3 to 4 cups Chocolate brownies, chopped
  • 2 cups Chocolate pudding
  • 1½ to 2 Chocolate candy bars, coarsely chopped
  • Can/tub of whipped topping

To simplify this recipe, you can use pre-baked brownies from the bakery section or even the boxed treats section of your grocer. You can also find pre-made pudding, or use chocolate pudding cups.

This is a fun recipe. Grab a couple of mason jars and the ingredients.

Oh, and use the heart pattern American Greetings Valentine’s Day tissue paper to wrap around the mason jars too. A little tape to help hold the tissue paper in place will do.
